2024 VISTA Millennial Superstars: David Rustay
David Rustay, a native of Morrisville, serves as the Director of Water Quality and Environmental Compliance for Aqua Pennsylvania. In this role, he is the liaison between water utility compliance and operations, ensuring seamless coordination and efficiency.
“The role involves knowing the facilities, personnel, and regulations to ensure that problems are fixed proactively and compliance is maintained,” said Rustay.
Rustay began his first job at the age of 13 working as a busboy at a pizza restaurant. Once he could drive, he moved up to pizza delivery and kept that as a side job through college and early career for a total of 17 years. He attended high school at Conwell-Egan Catholic. After high school, Rustay began his college education at Bucks County Community College but ultimately completed his bachelor’s degree in Environmental Biology at Kutztown University.
Rustay credits multiple people at each juncture of his career with impacting the professional he is today.
“Each stage of my career has been a positive jump due to some form of networking,” said Rustay. “Over the years, a few individuals have been critical in my trajectory to today. I would not be where I am today without the ability to use my network of friends, co-workers, and acquaintances.”
Over the course of his career thus far, Rustay is most proud of how his team has handled emergency-response events.
“During natural disasters or other similar events, the general public may not even know the amount of effort and investment that has occurred behind the scenes to ensure that their water service is not affected,” he said. “Each time I have been part of the team responding to an emergency event, my greatest satisfaction is the teamwork and dedication displayed by all toward the common goal.”
Rustay and his family enjoy the many Chester County breweries.
Rustay and the rest of the 2024 Class of VISTA Millennial Superstars will be honored at the Awards Reception & Celebration on Thursday, May 9 at Penn State Great Valley, Malvern.
