Avon Grove Charter School student, Wyatt Nelson, discovered his classmate had a heart murmur during a biomedical science lesson, reports staff for NBC10 Philadelphia

The teacher, Marielle Veilleux, said, “In the class, they assume roles of different medical and biology professionals.”

During a lesson on heart health, the students were given a hands-on approach, using stethoscopes on their classmates. Nelson was paired up with Bryce Pudger.

After listening to Pudger’s heart, Nelson said, “I heard a swooshing sound, and I wasn’t exactly sure what it was.” After the Veilleux asked if any of her students heard something, Nelson spoke up.

Pudger mentioned Nelson’s finding to his doctor. After Pudger’s doctor ordered an EKG, it was discovered that he does indeed have a heart murmur. Luckily, it isn’t serious, but is something for Pudger and his family to be aware of.

Thanks to Wyatt Nelson, they are now aware of his heart murmur and Nelson has potentially helped Pudger live a long and healthy life.

Nelson said, “It’s a good thing to know that maybe I had some part in it.”
