Michael Mallick and Jenny Mallick of Havertown joined a 340-mile run March 21 from Los Angeles to Las Vegas to raise money for the National Down Syndrome Society.

Their youngest son, Gregory, 9, was born with Down Syndrome, writes Peg DeGrassa for the Daily Times.

“Gregory is truly an amazing little guy and teaches me what is important in life every day,” said Michael Mallick. “All of us, including those like Gregory, born with infinite potential and limitless possibilities.”

The Mallicks say their son plays music, runs races, is into boxing and wins medals at swim meets.

The Run For 3.21 event started at California’s Santa Monica Pier just before sunrise on World Down Syndrome Day. 

Fifty hours later, after a relay run through the Mojave Desert, the couple arrived at the finish line in Las Vegas.

Participants had to run 35 to 45 miles over a three-day period over uneven terrain, extreme weather and near wildlife. Runners ate and slept in an RV.

The Mallicks and their team of 20 runners surpassed a combined goal of raising $100,000. The Mallicks estimate they raised $10,000 to the National Down Syndrome Society.
