Phoenixville native Kevin Negandhi signed a contract extension with ESPN to continue as the anchor of its flagship program SportsCenter.

Phoenixville native Kevin Negandhi is currently one of the most recognizable faces at ESPN, writes Jeff Blumenthal for the Philadelphia Business Journal

But before becoming anchor of the network’s 6 PM edition of its flagship program SportsCenter, he made history as the first Indian American national sports anchor.

“In the beginning, I had to work twice as hard because I don’t look like the standard person who people were used to,” he said.

Those days are behind him. The Temple University alum cemented his place at the Disney-owned sports network in January when he signed a multiyear contract extension.

Despite no longer residing in the Philadelphia region, Negandhi’s connection to local sports teams remains strong. His earliest sports fan memories date back to 1980 when all four of Philadelphia’s major professional teams made their way into the finals of their leagues.

He also started his career with Philadelphia’s sports media and he is quick to credit that for much of his career success. During his time at Temple and in the following years, Negandhi learned from some of the city’s legendary sports media personalities, both from afar and up close.
