On a 5.29-acre site, a developer wants to construct a new three-story, 200-room hotel near the West Chester University Campus, writes Bill Rettew for The Daily Local News.

Representatives from BT Carter Drive, LLC met with the Township Zoning Hearing Board earlier this week to pitch their proposal to build a new hotel at 205 Carter Drive. The hotel would have 220 parking spaces, some of which would be at ground level.

The property can currently be accessed along a thin strip just wide enough for a roadway. The plan calls for adding access to Matlack Street, which is a gated driveway for emergency access from student housing to Rosedale Avenue. Additionally, part of a driveway from Carter Drive would be extended to the hotel lot.

Some of the lot sits on a floodplain, with Goose Creek running through it. So the plan also calls for bringing the existing stormwater management up to current standards.

The meeting was attended by West Chester Public Works Department Director Don Edwards.

“There’s a number of likely questions about traffic that will need to be asked before the land development process is completed,” he said.
