Parents, family members, teachers, and friends were all welcomed by Habitat for Humanity of Chester County at the 21st annual Build a House…Build a Dream contest on Mar. 02. The event was held at the Church Farm School in Exton and highlighted the creativity and talent of fifth-grade students from the Delaware Valley.

During the contest, students worked either individually or in teams to design their own three-dimensional model dream home. Professional architects, engineers, and builders who were impressed with the level of detail and creativity displayed by each entry then judged these models.

This year’s competition saw 88 students from 17 different schools create 62 unique model homes. New this year, Saint-Gobain/Certainteed presented a sustainability award to one student who creatively incorporated sustainable materials into their design.

Katy Zachry, Reporter and Fill-In Anchor for NBC10 News Today was the emcee and brightened up the event with her talent and smile.

“I look forward to judging the Build a House event each year,” said Joanne Forsyth of Saint Gobain. “It’s an amazing opportunity to see the creativity and excitement of our local students. Saint-Gobain and CertainTeed are proud to work with Habitat in many ways, but I feel like the luckiest employee getting to be involved in this annual event. It’s so well organized and everyone has such a great day. These students should be so proud of their efforts. They are a great representation of Chester County, their schools, and their families.”
