Aqua Pennsylvania is replacing customer-owned lead and galvanized service lines — a major improvement for many Chester County communities.

Aqua Pennsylvania has kicked off a project to replace customer-owned lead and galvanized service lines for hundreds of people in a major improvement for residents in several Chester County communities. Customer-owned service lines are the pipes running from roughly the curb line to homes and businesses. Aqua already treats drinking water for corrosion control, but replacing these aging pipes is an extra step in mitigating customer risk.

“This project shows our commitment to eliminating lead from service lines across the state,” said Aqua Pennsylvania President Marc Lucca. “We look forward to working with customers to make sure the pipes supplying their drinking water are made of the safest and most modern materials.”

In all, approximately 450 customer-owned service lines will be replaced, mostly in West Chester Borough and West Goshen Township. Some replacements are also planned in Birmingham, East Bradford, East Marlborough, and Westtown Townships.

Local plumbers contracted by Aqua will complete the work from pipe replacement to ground repair. The work will be completed at no direct cost to the customer, and PennVEST funding secured by Aqua will reduce overall project costs. A two-year warranty on the replacements will also be provided.

“While it is important to eliminate lead service lines, we recognize the importance of keeping this modernization from becoming a financial burden to home and business owners. I want to specifically thank PennVEST for their assistance in securing these funds,” said Lucca

There is a two-year construction window, but Aqua will try to complete this work as soon as possible.
