Once a popular hobby, trading sports cards has reemerged as a favorite pastime since the COVID-19 pandemic. Wheelhouse Cards, a full-service sports card and collectible shop, has opened its second location in West Chester, write Wakisha Bailey and Rory Hardenstine for CBS News Philadelphia.
The interior of Wheelhouse Cards is covered in different sports cards, with baseball, football, basketball, hockey, soccer players, and more on the walls. If you’re not a sports fan, there’s still a place for you at Wheelhouse; the shop even features Pokémon playing cards.
It is is home to rare collectible cards, such as Phillies’ star Bryce Harper. “You’ll also see Eagles cards,” said Charles Kappe, owner of the shop, “where Jalen Hurts is one of the most wanted collectibles, along with A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.”
Recently, the store celebrated Topps Hobby Rip Night, a nationwide event where hobby shops come together for the ultimate night of opening and trading cards. Tops Hobby Rip Night brought in dozens of people to the shop to enjoy the night.
“We get a lot of kids that are just getting into collecting and come in here for some knowledge,” Kappe said, “and dads who may have stumbled upon their old collection.”
