Comcast CEO Brian Roberts has plans to further expand its presence throughout Philadelphia, writes Ryan Mulligan for the Philadelphia Business Journal

Already the largest public company headquartered in Philadelphia, Comcast is also one of the biggest employers and occupiers of real estate, most notably at its two namesake skyscrapers in Center City

“Philadelphia is home, the heart and soul of the company,” said Roberts. “We’ve got to be global and local at the same time. So we have expansion plans.”

Comcast Spectacor recently presented plans to a neighborhood group for a massive mixed-use development at the South Philadelphia Sports complex that would include 500,000 square feet of office space, 2,000 multifamily residential units, 460,000 square feet of retail, 500 hotel rooms, and a 5,500-seat concert venue.

“We continue to invest in the South Philadelphia neighborhood and hopefully more in the future,” Roberts added.

Comcast’s investments in Philadelphia in the last two decades include opening the Comcast Center, its 58-story flagship building in 2008; the opening of the $1.5 billion, 60-story Comcast Technology Center next door in 2018; and a Four Seasons hotel that occupies the top 12 floors of the tower.

Roberts noted that Comcast had its best fiscal year last year at $121.57 billion.
