Cafe, Shop in Chester Springs Breathes New Life Into Old House
It’s not just any old house; the Jenny Lind House at Historic Yellow Springs has been given the gift of new life through Life’s Patina Mercantile & Cafe, a place that seeks to merge the beauty of past and present, writes Melissa Jacobs for Main Line Tonight.
Nicknamed after Jenny Lind, the 19th-century opera singer who stayed there while touring the United States, the house is now home to founder Meg Veno’s dream. The house has undergone countless renovations over the centuries, both positively and negatively impacting its structure, but Veno sought to bring back its charm. She has another location in Malvern at the history-filled Willowbrook Farm, which is from the 1700s.
Life’s Patina cafe is available for breakfast, brunch, and lunch, along with coffee and tea. Some of their menu items include a spinach and cheese quiche with bacon, deliciously leafy salads, and a showcase full of desserts like banana bread, pastries, and scones. Seating is first come, first served.
At the retail end, Main Line Tonight refers to its decor as being reminiscent of the French countryside. With delicate tableware, candles, stationery items, and pantry additions, there’s the perfect gift sitting in every pocket and corner of the shop.
One thing to keep in mind before you go is the parking challenge as there is no dedicated parking lot at the location of 1657 Art School Road. You can park at the Chester Springs Library Lot or Municipal Lot just a short walk away. Happy dining/shopping!
