Wawa or Sheetz? Penn State Coach James Franklin Weighs In
There wouldn’t be much to college football if there weren’t healthy rivalries to fuel the games. So Penn State coach James Franklin understands the significance of rivalries—even ones between two convenience store chains, writes Michelle R. Martinelli for For the Win, USA Today.
And Pennsylvania’s got a big one, with emotional fans in both camps. Wawa or Sheetz?
At a recent joint press conference, Franklin and Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin talked about the upcoming Peach Bowl matchup.
At one point, For the Win tossed out the question to Franklin about the convenience store rivalry.
Frankin’s answer was thoughtful—with a firm acknowledgment of his Wawa roots.
“Hmmm. You’re putting me in a tough spot. For everybody in here that maybe doesn’t cover Penn State closely, we’re in central Pennsylvania, so right in the middle of the Eagles and the Steelers. And I grew up just outside of Philadelphia, so I’m a Wawa guy. But now I live in central Pennsylvania, and it’s Sheetz.”
Franklin opted to stick with Wawa as his favorite, the one he grew up with.
“But I have really learned to appreciate Sheetz being in central Pennsylvania,” he added.
See what else Franklin had to say about the Wawa or Sheetz? Rivalry in For the Win.
