If you are planning to visit New York City, these are the best times to go if you are looking to take advantage of lower prices or want to deal with fewer crowds.

New York City has something to offer for everyone, so choosing the best time to visit depends primarily on what you are looking for, be it nice weather, festivals and events, lower prices, or fewer crowds, writes Lauren Dana Ellman for Travel + Leisure.

If you would like to avoid crowds and enjoy your sightseeing peacefully, the best times to visit are mid-winter and late spring. These periods also have the bonus of lower rates on lodging, meaning you can score great deals at some of the city’s best hotels.

When it comes to good weather, those who like outdoor concerts and being able to walk everywhere should visit in the summer. However, if you do not like the heat, the best time to visit is fall, when you can still take advantage of outdoor activities and also cozy up at some of the best restaurants and bars in the city.

Budget-conscious travelers should head to New York City in mid to late winter. In addition to great hotel rates, this period also has lower airfares and cheaper tickets to some of the city’s most popular attractions, including Broadway shows.

However, if you are not a fan of cold weather, a late summer trip could offer some savings.

Finally, if your focus is primarily on festivals and events, there is something to see throughout the entire year. Movie buffs should not miss the Tribeca Film Festival in June or the New York Film Festival in the fall.

To attend the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens’ Sakura Matsuri Brooklyn Cherry Blossom Festival, plan a spring trip. Meanwhile, culinary connoisseurs should opt for an October visit for the famous Food Network New York City Wine & Food Festival.
