Kuerner Hill in Chadds Ford has provided inspiration for several renowned local artists over the years, including Karl Kuerner and Andrew Wyeth, writes Bill Rettew for The Daily Local News.

Wyeth painted over 1,000 paintings at the Kuerner Farm. Many of his sketches, oils, watercolors, and tempuras were prepared at the iconic Kuerner Hill.

The Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art acquired the Kuerner Farm 25 years ago. To celebrate the milestone year, the Brandywine Museum is currently hosting an exhibit of acrylics and watercolors by Karl J. Kuerner titled “The Continuity of Creativity.”

According to Amanda Burdan, senior curator of the Brandywine Museum of Art, the exhibit is not a retrospective, but a slice of life on view.

Kuerner is the grandson of Karl Kuerner Sr. and his wife Anna, both of whom regularly modeled for Wyeth at the farm. Part of the exhibit that runs through May 19 includes old family photos.

The artist still lives close to the farm and near the magical hill.

“The hill is the hub – has seen everything,” he said.
