With an increasing number of bed bug sightings in hotels and Airbnbs, a flight attendant offers her advice on checking your room for the pest.

With bed bugs being all over the news lately, one flight attendant offers advice on how to avoid bringing them back from a trip, writes  Stacey Leasca for Travel + Leisure.

“It is more important now than ever to be checking your hotel rooms for bed bugs — and your Airbnbs,” said Cari Curri, or @cici.inthesky on TikTok.

Upon check-in, the flight attendant makes sure not to put her bags “past the hard floor onto the carpet, and definitely never go on the bed,” because this could result in items inside getting contaminated.

Then she pulls up the bedding and checks every corner of the mattress.

“I do this when the lights are off, and I use my phone’s flashlight, and I check the creases,” she said.

She also lifts the mattress and checks the headboard if it is fabric. She also checks any fabric seating or avoids it altogether.

“If you do find bed bugs or what you think is evidence of bed bugs, go ahead and call down to the front desk,” she said. “I suggest you get another room and check again.”
