Instead of a Ball, Kennett Square Drops a Mushroom on New Year’s Eve
While other states may settle for a ball, many Pennsylvania towns often drop more interesting things on New Year’s Eve, including Kennett Square, writes Ashley Adams for The Keystone.
Known as Midnight in the Square or simply The Mushroom Drop, the “Mushroom Capital of the World” put its spin on the time-honored tradition and instead of the usual round object, visitors can watch a lighted 700-pound stainless steel mushroom drop at the stroke of midnight.
The festivities start on State and Union Streets at 7:30 PM.
Music this year includes tunes from Kevin Pierce, School of Rock, Fred McCarthy and Syde Two, led by Leon Spencer, as well as dancing from KMC Dancers. Other fun activities are the laser show, mushroom raffle, and photo booth.
Good eats will be available in the form of Savannas Tender Love & Fries, Good Time Mushroom Coffee, and Robyn’s Catering.
Admission to the party is non-perishable food items for KACS, which will have a truck on-site collecting donations.
