West Whiteland Car Crash Survivor to Live Out Legacy of Firefighter Boyfriend Who Died in Same Crash

By

Emily Gindele, a volunteer firefighter who survived a car crash on Oct. 20 in Uwchlan Township that killed her boyfriend, another volunteer firefighter, Colin Reedy, has been struggling to remember that fateful day, writes Walter Perez for 6ABC.

Her only recollection is having dinner with Reedy and then receiving a call from West Whiteland Fire Company.

“We got a fire call,” said Gindele. “So, we left MaGerk’s restaurant. We left our credit card behind. We hadn’t even gotten our food yet and we got in the car and that’s the last bit that I remember.”

On the way, Reedy lost control of the vehicle and crashed. He died at the scene, while Gindele was taken to hospital with severe injuries. When she awoke, her family knew how hard it would be to tell her that he had died. Surprisingly, Gindele said she already knew.

“I had a lot of strange dreams,” she said. “I don’t remember talking to Colin, but I sort of remember talking and seeing Colin in a lot of those dreams. He was there with me.”

Now that she is undergoing recovery, Gindele plans to live out the legacy Reedy devoted his life to.

“[I plan to] keep giving back to my community, keep volunteering at the firehouse,” she said. “Just giving back because there are a lot of worse situations than the one I was in and I just want to be able to help people during these tough times that they have.”
