Historic Chase Barn in Chesterbrook could not be saved and had to be demolished.

Despite the efforts of residents to save the historic Chase Barn in Chesterbrook, the developer has proceeded with the demolition of the structure, writes Holly Herman for the Patch.

The property owner, Finery of West Chester, obtained a township permit to remove the barn at 355 Chase Road on April 17, 2023. Recently, contractors, West Chester-based Green Bridge Development, demolished the 1890 building.

The barn was located close to the former Chase Road Swim Club, which closed its doors for good in 2016. It was originally part of the Green Valley Farms.

In a recent Tredyffrin Township meeting, several residents asked the township to stay the demolition. They also questioned the procedures required to obtain the permit.

According to Supervisor Murph Wysocki, the developer followed all of the proper procedures.

This was confirmed by Erin McPherson, director of planning and zoning, who reiterated the proper procedures were followed and that the township’s Historic Commission and Historic Preservation Trust were both notified of the move.

McPherson added that so far, the developer presented no plans to the township on the future of the site.
