Brandywine Red Clay Alliance Shares Plan for West Branch of the Red Clay Creek Watershed
On Dec. 13, Brandywine Red Clay Alliance representatives and an environmental scientist presented the results of a comprehensive assessment plan for the Red Clay Creek Watershed’s West Branch at Kennett Library, writes Richard Gaw for the Chester County Press.
The plan paves the way for a ten-year restoration of the watershed starting next year.
It was introduced by James Jordan, BRC Executive Director and CEO, Brian Winslow, BRC Watershed Conservation Director, and Dr. Aaron Clauser of Clauser Environmental.
The plan details the nonprofit organization’s extensive efforts to decrease sediment, nitrogen, and phosphorus pollution on a broad scale within the western section of the watershed. This area ranges from Route 1 in the north to the Marshall Bridge area in the south, and encompasses tributaries in New Garden, East Marlborough, and Kennett townships, as well as within the Kennett Borough.
The planned clean-up is the latest component of the organization’s Red Streams Blue program, originally launched in 2007. The program addresses Red Clay creeks and Brandywine Creek watersheds and the need to make major environmental improvements there.
