These two farms in Chester County are offering sustainably-raised turkeys for Thanksgiving.

This Thanksgiving, skip the chaos of fighting over a frozen turkey during a last-minute grocery trip and instead order a sustainably-raised one from one of these Chester County farms, writes Claire Mainprize for The Keystone.

Canter Hill Farm in Malvern exclusively raises Heritage Turkeys — Bourbon Reds, Spanish Blacks, and Narragansetts. It considers its products to be “beyond organic.”

The farm is currently taking preorders. The birds will be butchered on the Friday and Monday ahead of Thanksgiving. They can be enjoyed within the following ten days if kept cold.

You can pick up your bird from Nov. 18 to 22 in several locations. You can specify which one works best for you on the order form. The deposit for the turkey is $75. It can be paid via Venmo, check, or at the market. The price is $10.95 per pound.

Meanwhile, Howe Farm in Downingtown harvests its turkeys respectfully and with dignity. The farm is currently taking preorders for pickup at the farm between Nov. 20 and 22.

A $20 deposit is required. The price is $4.15 per pound.
