Mr. Auger received over 250 cards for his 99th birthday.

When her grandfather’s 99th birthday started to get closer, Kristin Schappell took to social media to see if people would be willing to send him cards and make his day even more special, according to a staff report from CBS 21 News

However, the response she got to her Facebook post was much bigger than she was expecting. She received more than 100 cards within the first week. By Nov. 14, his birthday, she had over 200 cards to present to him.

The thoughtful gesture and the well wishes from so many people brought Arnold Auger, a WWII veteran who resides in West Chester, to tears.

“Folks, I don’t know what to say,” he said to his family.

The most special card came from his family, who presented him with a giant 99th handmade birthday card.

And the cards did not stop on his birthday. He has since received two gifts from West Chester University students who presented him with a folder carrying 30 handmade birthday cards along with a throw blanket that came with a card with 25 notes and signatures.

The veteran’s total count is now 276 birthday cards.
