Seeing is believing, which is why both Valley Forge Military Academy and Valley Forge Military College are scheduling Open House visits for prospective Cadets.

“The impact of a campus visit is profound,” said Mayra Barcus, director of admissions at Valley Forge Military College. “The most distinctive factor is when prospective students see that obtaining a military education does not always mean serving in the military.”

Valley Forge Military College is a private and co-ed junior military college offering 10 majors along two tracks: the Citizen Leader program for those who will not serve in the military and the Early Commissioning Program for those who will. The ECP enables graduates to commission as officers in the Army or National Guard a full two years sooner than those in traditional ROTC programs at four-year schools.

“When prospective students see the campus, meet both ECP and Citizen Leader Cadets, see the apartment living options, and see the track toward a solid professional future, VFMC becomes a strong choice,” said Barcus.

As a private, college-preparatory, military boarding school for boys in grades 7-12, the Open Houses at Valley Forge Military Academy have a slightly different mission.

“The goal of our Open House is to showcase the educational advantages VFMA provides,” said Natalie Lahiff, manager of Valley Forge Military Academy admissions and financial aid.

“In addition to a campus tour and a presentation about the Academy, parents and prospective Cadets have all their questions answered by members of our leadership team and current Cadets. Parents can see the safety and security here and be confident in the care their sons receive when they’re entrusted to us.”

Visitors have the opportunity to meet faculty, staff, institutional leadership, and most important, current Cadets. They learn about clubs, sports, and domestic and international experiential learning opportunities.

“While there are some young men wanting to join the military, the majority seek out VFMA for the structure and discipline it provides along with the more personalized education experience,” said Lahiff. “Students quickly find themselves earning A and B grades because of the small class sizes.”

All VFMAC students complete a plebe system designed to help them work together for success. At both VFMA and VFMC, the education is structured around Five Cornerstones: Academic Excellence, Character Development, Personal Motivation, Physical Development, and Leadership. Qualifying VFMA Cadets are able to take college classes at VFMC. After graduation, nearly 100 percent attend some of the most prestigious colleges and universities in the U.S., including the military service academies.
