The National Merit Scholarship Corporation recently released a list of the Semifinalists in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program, including eighteen Unionville High School students, according to a staff report from the Chester County Press

“We are immensely proud to announce that 18 of our exceptional students have been named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists,” said Dr. Amy Jenkins, the Unionville High School principal. “This remarkable achievement is a testament to their unwavering dedication to academic excellence, their insatiable thirst for knowledge, and the incredible  support of our dedicated educators.”

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition that rewards students with recognition and scholarships. Students enter the competition by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which is an initial screening of the program entrants each year.

To make it to the finalist level, approximately 16,000 Semifinalists have to fulfill several requirements. These include showcasing their academic record, participation in school and community activities, instances where they demonstrated their leadership abilities, and honors and awards received, among other factors.

The competition will provide around 7,140 National Merit Scholarships worth close to $28 million next spring.
