Berwyn Grandmother Channels Phillies’ Fans Emotions Into Poems

By

Berwyn grandmother and former Latin teacher Toni Budd channels the emotions felt by Philadelphia Phillies fans during the games into eloquent poems, writes Matteo Iadonisi for 6ABC.

“What a game. What a team. There are no words for the Bank’s screams,” she wrote in one of her poems.

Budd has been writing Phillies-inspired poems since last year’s World Series.

“I got so nervous watching the game, so I would write down notes for every single inning,” she said. “Then I started to say, you know, they’re such a great team. I’ll just start making some poems.”

Her works always contain heart and empathy for the humanity she witnesses on the field.

“I think they have opened themselves up to us,” said Budd. “And the fans, we have all opened up ourselves to them. We know their families pretty much as well as our next door neighbors.”

The budding poet had hoped to see the Phillies reach another World Series this year. Her passion for the team will stay strong despite losses.

“Every season, win or lose, I will continue to write my poems because I love the Phillies,” she said.
