Owen J. Roberts Boys Basketball Prepares to Generate Buzz Throughout the County Once Again

While it has been some time since Owen J. Roberts boys basketball has generated a little buzz, the team is now ready to change that, writes Owen McCue for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Third-year head coach Ben Condello has a good feeling about his current group of players who showcased their skills in the offseason.

“We’ve made one playoff appearance in 15 years, think about that,” said Condello. “And I think this year, I’d like to think we got a shot.”

Last season, the Wildcats went 6-16, and a combined 18-41 during Condello’s first three seasons leading the team. But this offseason, the team has hung on against teams like Dobbins Tech.

“Seeing those things, kind of gives you the idea that if we put it all together we can do some solid things,” said Condello. “Having a mix of all different pieces makes this good, but it all starts with the culture and the leadership.”

The players are also feeling the optimism and commitment that was missing in previous seasons.

“Commitment, hard work, and coming to practice every day ready to go,” said Luke Fryer, a senior point guard.
