Mid Penn Bank Donates $100,000 to Basser Center For BRCA at Penn Medicine
Mid Penn Bank is continuing its partnership with the Basser Center for BRCA at Penn Medicine in Philadelphia.
On October 3, Mid Penn Bank President and CEO Rory Ritrievi presented the organization with a $100,000 donation from funds raised by the 2023 Mid Penn Bank Celebrity Golf Classic, which took place in July.
“Approximately 1 in 200 people have a BRCA gene mutation, putting them at heightened risk for certain cancers. The Basser Center’s groundbreaking research is making progress toward detecting cancer early before it becomes life-threatening, or preventing it from developing at all,” Ritrievi said.
The Basser Center is the first comprehensive center for the research, treatment, and prevention of BRCA-related cancers. These hereditary mutations affect both women and men and can increase lifetime risks for cancers including breast, ovarian, pancreatic, prostate, and melanoma.
The center’s unique model provides funding for collaborative research, education, and outreach programs around the world. The Basser Center has helped to accelerate progress for cancer research, including contributing to the development of FDA-approved targeted therapies for BRCA-related cancers.
This is the second year that the Bank has raised money for the Basser Center through its annual Celebrity Golf Classic.
This year, the fundraiser brought together more than 60 celebrities and sponsors passionate about advocating for increased funding for cancer research and treatment.
