Downingtown Area School District is one the largest school districts in the state.

The Downingtown Area School District, which covers 82 square miles in the heart of Chester County, is one of the eight largest school districts in Pennsylvania with 16 schools and approximately 13,250 enrolled students, writes Kristina Larson for MSN.

In addition to being one of the largest, the district is also one of the 25 best in the state. While it is known for its small-town charm, thanks to its size, the Downingtown Area School District is able to offer its students everything a large school district can.

The district, which came in sixth place overall, serves eight different municipalities, has a student-to-teacher ratio of 16:1, and employs a staff of around 1,900 people.

The district is also very diverse with its students speaking around 43 different languages.

Its instructional vision revolves around three main goals: academic rigor, student engagement, and student agency.

The largest school district in the state is the School District of Philadelphia with 329 schools and approximately 197,288 enrolled students.
