New Boat Ramp Makes for Better Access to the East Branch of Brandywine Creek
Water lovers in the region can now enjoy better access to the East Branch of the Brandywine Creek thanks to a new boat ramp at Shaw’s Bridge Park, writes Bill Rettew for The Daily Local News.
The ramp, which has been put in place thanks in part to a Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission grant, was officially unveiled on a hot Wednesday afternoon in front of around two dozen residents, dignitaries, public officials, and state representatives.
State Sen. Carolyn Comitta said that during warm weather, waters such as the Brandywine Creek can offer a much-needed respite from the heat.
“Today would be a perfect day to come to Shaw’s Bridge Park to fish or take a boat out on the scenic river,” she said. “These activities are more accessible than ever.”
The Shaw’s Bridge Park ramp cost $40,000 to make. Out of that, $20,000 came from the state. A match of $10,000 was donated by the Brandywine Conservancy through the William Penn Foundation, while the remaining $10,000 came from a Natural Lands PECO grant.
