As the Willow Grove Shopping Center sees a major overhaul, a new 260-unit apartment building has been approved. Federal Realty Investment Trust will build the residential buildings on a parking lot, along with retail and a parking garage, writes Paul Schwedelson for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The site will be at 122 Park Avenue, which is close to the Willow Grove Train Station. Construction for the property will begin in the fall of 2024. It will be part of the third phase of the shopping center’s redevelopment.

The second phase will be completed this September and includes an 18,000-square-foot retail building.  Also in Montgomery County, Upper Moreland’s 2040 Comprehensive plan will call for more modern apartments.

Federal Realty also has a presence in Bala Cynwyd, with an $8 million investment in the shopping center on City Avenue. Building facades and sidewalks will be upgraded by next month.
