Berwyn Resident Becomes New Chancellor at Penn State Branch
Dr. Radha Pyati, a Berwyn resident and former West Chester University dean of the College of the Sciences and Mathematics, is the newly minted chancellor of Penn State Berks, writes David Mekeel for The Daily Local News.
She took the reins of the educational institution on July 1. Her new position is the latest step in a successful career dedicated to higher learning.
Pyati fell in love with chemistry in high school, and credits a great teacher for getting her interested in science.
“A good teacher can set somebody on a wonderful path,” she said.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Ohio State University followed by a doctorate from the University of North Carolina. She discovered the joys of teaching while in graduate school.
“I enjoyed teaching as a grad student,” she said. “So I knew I enjoyed interacting with students.”
She started as a professor at the University of Colorado, before moving to the University of North Florida, where she later became chair of the chemistry department. The next step was West Chester and now Penn State Berks.
