After leading the team through the best era of baseball in Philadelphia’s history, Phillies superstars Jimmy Rollins and Ryan Howard will now take charge of a different group, writes OJ Spivey for The Philadelphia Tribune.

Rollins and Howard will head the Commissioner’s Ambassador Program launched by Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred. This new initiative features 12 former players who will, among other responsibilities, take part in the MLB community and other programs, represent the game at various events organized by the MLB – such as the All-Star Game and postseason games, and support the league’s international growth.

Between 2005 and 2011, Howard and Rollins helped the Phillies achieve five consecutive Eastern Division titles and two National League pennants, as well as a World Series championship. They were also the National League Most Valuable Players in 2006 and 2007, respectively.

“Leading the Commissioner’s Ambassador Program alongside Ryan and a group of former players who all share the same passion as we do was an opportunity I knew I couldn’t pass up,” added Rollins.
