New West Grove History Center Reveals Story of Town Through Relics, Memorabilia
Local historian R. Scott Steele recently opened the doors on the West Grove History Center which honors the town and tells its story through hundreds of artifacts, writes Gabbie Burton for the Chester County Press.
Steele has collected many relics and memorabilia over more than four decades. On June 2, he welcomed more than 240 guests to the former contractor shop on Prospect Avenue for the two-day opening weekend.
“It’s a collection of objects and manuscripts that tell us the story of the town,” said Steele.
He hopes that the exhibit along with all the artifacts will convey the significance of the men and women who, over the many years, grew West Grove from a small village to the thriving borough it is now.
The new museum is an expansion of the smaller museum that Steele has operated out of his garage for the last nine years.
“My goal always was to get my collection back in town,” said Steele.
The collection boasts memorabilia from businesses, the Avon Grove schools, the borough’s former hospital, and many significant historical events and people in West Grove.
