Penn Medicine Chester County Hospital’s (CCH) Community Health and Wellness Department offered a hands-only CPR and AED training on June 21, 2023, to several Coatesville-area churches and community members. The churches that participated in this hands-on training event were recently gifted AED (automated external defibrillator) devices from CCH as part of an outreach initiative.

The training was held at the Chester County Public Safety Training Campus and was led by the nursing staff from the CCH Community Health and Wellness Department. Eighteen attendees from six different community churches participated in the life-saving training.  

“Our goal is to make sure the churches and community are comfortable with these devices and that they have enough people that are trained in basic life support, including the proper use of an AED,” said Michele Francis, Director of Wellness at CCH.  

This is the second health safety-training event CCH has provided to the Coatesville community. Earlier this summer, CCH provided seven AEDs to area community churches, and the CCH Community Health and Wellness Department offered free Basic-Life Support CPR training in March.  

“We’re so happy to be able to work with Chester County Hospital in supporting the Coatesville community and the local churches who need these devices,” said Minnie McNeil, a prominent Coatesville community leader from the W.C. Atkinson (WCA) Center. “The trainings that they offer are a crucial part in making sure that everyone can readily assist in case of an emergency. An equipped and informed community is a safer community.”
