In Leadership Role, West Chester Cancer Specialist Aims to Drive Specialized Treatment for Child Patients
A West Chester pediatric cancer specialist has been chosen to lead the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and he wants to use his leadership role to explore specialized treatment for child patients, writes Sarah Gantz for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
E. Anders Kolb worked in the division of hematology and oncology at Nemours Children’s Health. He will still remain on the team, but scale back his responsibilities.
Kolb’s goal as CEO is to spearhead more research and funding for specifically tailored treatments. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society launched a trial in 2022 that uses international collaboration to test therapeutic treatments for children to minimize complications that come with chemotherapy.
“In five years, we’re going to see this has fundamentally changed the way children with leukemia are treated,” he said.
This is not Kolb’s first rodeo within the organization. Fifteen years ago, he started volunteering after his wife was diagnosed with follicular lymphoma. Despite the return of the cancer, Kolb says that she’s doing well.
