Dogs will soon get a fenced-in park all to themselves on an acre and a half of grass and trees at Exton Park’s Swedesford Recreation Area, writes Bill Rettew for The Daily Local News

Along with the new cricket field, West Whiteland Township will open the dog park on June 30.

An ADA-compliant paved path will connect the newly built parking lot with the dog park that will have benches and dog waste stations.

An official ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held later in the summer by supervisors Brian Dunn, Raj Kumbhardare, and Theresa Santalucia.

Meanwhile the excitement over the addition of the park is palpable.

“We know from the community that there is demand for a dog park and additional cricket fields,” said Township Manager Pam Gural-Bear. “Throughout the Exton Park development process, we have been in close communication with the public to learn what they are most interested in adding to the park.”

It is expected that “these newest additions to be very well-received,” she added.

Exton Park stretches over 727 acres and is jointly owned by Chester County and the township.
