Primark, the fashion retailer based in Ireland, has plans to increase its U.S. footprint.

After its successful launch in the U.S. with seven locations, including one in the King of Prussia Mall, Primark has been increasing its position here and plans to add even more locations throughout the country, writes Paul Norman for CoStar, a provider of commercial real estate news and analytics.

The Dublin, Ireland-based fashion retailer opened its first store in the U.S. in Boston eight years ago, after entering into lease agreements with Sears Group for seven stores. The deals were for more than 500,000 square feet and included a King of Prussia space.

The company opened a few more locations throughout 2020 and 2021 and then quickened its pace. The retailer announced 10 new openings last year, doubling its footprint in the U.S.

“It has been successful taking on leases where some landlords had excess spaces in shopping centers and where department stores went into administration or needed to scale back,” said Jonathan De Mello, founder of retailing consultant JDM Retail, of Primark’s strategy.

The company is making progress in total sales, which were 11 percent higher than in the previous year, according to recent results.
