Holy Family University is now accepting new applicants for a program that will be teaching English to adults from the Ukraine.

The university’s English as a Second Language (ESL) initiative for newly-arrived Ukrainian adults is now accepting new applicants. The classes are free and open to members of the community who are at least 18 years old. Classes start in June at Holy Family University’s Northeast Philadelphia campus, located at 9801 Frankford Avenue in Philadelphia, as well as in an online setting.

Online classes will be held from June 6 to August 24 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 – 7 PM. In-person classes will be held from June 21 to July 31 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5 – 7 PM. Those interested in applying to the program can register at Holy Family University.

In the fall of 2022, the university launched the program on its Northeast Philadelphia campus to ensure a welcoming and accessible learning community for all. The University established the initiative after presenting Volodymyr Zelenskyy, president of Ukraine, an honorary degree in absentia at its 2022 Commencement ceremony.

Since the launch of the initiative, over 100 newly arrived Ukrainians have attended classes at no cost to help them improve their English proficiency and become familiar with the Philadelphia community.
