Safeguarded Pennsylvania Treasures to Be Auctioned in Downingtown
The Pennsylvania Treasury has partnered with Downingtown-based Pook & Pook for the upcoming online auction of unclaimed property to be held on Wednesday and Thursday, writes Paul Vigna for the Harrisburg Patriot-News.
According to Treasurer Stacy Garrity, the auction includes everything from fine jewelry and coins to currency and many other treasures. All the pieces that will be put up for auction have been safeguarded in the vault of the Treasury. Most of them will be featured on the first day of the auction.
Pook & Pook is in charge of appraisal and auctioneer services. Items can be previewed at the auction house’s website, where interested bidders can register.
Among the items are a 14K two-tone gold stick pin brooch with a 2-carat diamond, $20 Liberty Head Double Eagle gold coins, and an 18K yellow gold George Melleze pocket watch with silver-colored key attached. Various comic books and magazines are also among the items.
“There are some remarkable items available to bid on in this auction,” said Garrity. “Any proceeds will be carefully tracked – and will always be available for the rightful owner to claim any time, even years or decades from now.”
