Stewart McLaurin will visit Neumann University in Aston March 23 to reveal little-known details about the history of the White House and share some untold stories about its past.

This free presentation is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. in the Meagher Theatre on campus.

McLaurin is president of the White House Historical Association, founded by First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy in 1961 to share and preserve the rich history of the White House.

A private nonprofit, nonpartisan organization, the Association is committed to enhancing the understanding, appreciation, and enjoyment of the executive mansion.

According to the association’s website, “This organization is responsible for making the White House an American museum. The mission is to assist in the preservation of the state and public rooms, fund acquisitions for the White House permanent collection, and educate the public on the history of the White House.”

Stewart McLaurin is the host of The White House 1600 Sessions, the association’s official audio and video podcast devoted to exploring the history, cultural impact, and personal accounts of America’s most recognizable residence.

He is a member of the USA Today Board of Contributors and writes a monthly column about the history of the White House and our nation’s presidents and first ladies.

He is the author of the 2021 anthology James Hoban: Designer and Builder of the White House, which presents the life and work of the little-known Irish American architect who was handpicked by George Washington to design the President’s house.

McLaurin’s first book, White House Miscellany, features interesting anecdotes about life in the White House, as well as facts and figures about the building itself.

The event is sponsored by the Cultural Arts Forum at Neumann University. The forum hosts lecture series, workshops, and author presentations to enrich the educational experiences of the university and the community.
