Dance Company Visits Residents at Brightview Senior Living in Wayne to Bridge Youth, Age Through Dancing

By

Residents at the Brightview Senior Living Devon Residences in Wayne got a special treat yesterday when a dance company visited them to spend the afternoon teaching dances and having fun, writes Tom Kretschmer for 6ABC.

For the Shaking with Seniors event, The X-Perience Dance Company performed a special dance routine that is often used on TikTok. Then, they had seniors join them on stage to learn and dance as well.

While residents learned about the newest dance moves, X-Perience Dance Company Director, Fayette Coppock-Brown, said it also contributed to bridging generational, economic, and racial gaps.

“The reason why I wanted to kick this off on Dr. Martin Luther King Day was because he had a reoccurring theme for everything he stood for, which was unity,” she said. “So, there’s no better way to make that happen than to get loose together and shaking and dancing we’ll have time for a chat and chew later where you can share your experiences.”

Dancers reported it was a great opportunity for younger generations to connect with their elders. Additionally, one resident said it was nice way to get an afternoon full of exercise.
