The fourth-generation owners of Chertok's Furniture and Mattress in Coatesville are retiring. The 121-year-old business, however, will remain open, as it is slated to operate under new owners, who plan to retain the store's iconic name.

VISTA Today recently published a story, entitled “Oldest Retail Business in Coatesville Set to Close,” about Chertok’s Furniture and Mattress that was curated from a report in The Daily Local News.

The fourth-generation, family-owned business — a staple on Coatesville’s main street, East Lincoln Highway, that opened in 1902 — is, in fact, not closing. Owner Larry Chertok and his wife, Terian Chertok, are retiring and selling the business to a new owner, who plans to continue to operate it as Chertok’s.

Larry and Terian are moving to Florida.

“Like many community members, my first apartment was furnished by Chertok’s,” said Linda Lavender-Norris, Coatesville City Council President. “Anyone who resides in the city has most likely had the pleasure of visiting this family company that has been such an important part of our business community for generations.”

VISTA Today apologizes for the inaccuracy and wishes the new owner prosperity and the Chertoks health and happiness in their retirement.
