West Chester NFL Player Carl Nassib Pays Kindness Forward With New Volunteer App
Carl Nassib, a pro athlete from West Chester who came out last year as the first gay active football player, recently launched a new app called Rayze inspired by the power of passing it forward, writes Jason Sheeler for People.
Since coming out, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive has received overwhelming support from the NFL organization, fans, and more. Even after donating $100,000 to the Trevor Project, a nonprofit that aids LGBTQ youth, he knew there was more he could do to show support.
“The NFL went out of their way to support me, to support the Trevor Project, and to show how the impact of how one person doing something for others can be compounded,” he said.
Coming from a sport that tends to be cutthroat and rooted in competition, it can be hard to find kindness on the field. Yet, Nassib put together Rayze, an app that matches people and nonprofits through geolocation for volunteer opportunities.
Alternatively, he said it can also act as a romantic endeavor for those who are tired of generic coffee outings and want to make an impact on that first date by handing out lunches or picking up litter — “a Tinder for volunteering,” writes People.
