Volunteers Pack 35,000 Meals at Downingtown Church for Those in Need
Over 100 volunteers ranging from ages three to 83 gathered at Hopewell United Methodist Church in Downingtown to pack 35,000 meals in two hours for those in need, according to a staff report from the The Daily Local News.
The event, held in partnership with Meals of Hope, was part of a month-long campaign organized by the church. The campaign encouraged and engaged residents and businesses of Chester County to spread kindness throughout the community.
Around half of the meals that were packed at the church are being distributed locally through the Chester County Food Bank. The other half will be distributed to people in Haiti through Meals of Hope.
“In a season when food insecurity is high and food donations are low, we saw this opportunity with Meals of Hope as a way to show kindness in a very tangible and necessary way,” said Hopewell UMC Senior Pastor Amy Banka.
In addition to the meal packing event, the church’s campaign also includes home repair projects with Good Works, making and serving meals at Safe Harbor in West Chester, and more.
