Amtrak is signing a $6 million lease to occupy 67,000 square feet of space at a Thorndale property. It will serve as a hub for the transit company’s “ambitious projects,” writes Ryan Mulligan for The Philadelphia Business Journal.

The facility on S. Bailey Road will be used as office space for operations and security. It will also serve as a space for assembly, storage and serve as a meeting & training space.

Amtrak plans to move in by December.

Amtrak is planning to roll out a series of updated Acela trains in Fall of 2023. The company is also making improvements to the Northeast Corridor.

The newer trains offer an upscale experience to passengers. Its new café car includes a digital menu and self-service. Doors between cars and bathrooms are touchless and automatic. Passengers also have more table space and winged headrests. The trains can carry up to 380 passengers.

Most importantly, each car will be accessible to people with disabilities. Bathrooms and café cars are ADA-certified.
