Malvern Girl One of Five Finalists — Among Tens of Thousands of Entrants — in Doodle for Google Contest

Faridah Ismaila, a rising seventh-grader at Great Valley Middle School, is one of the five finalists in this year’s Doodle for Google contest, writes Megan VerHelst for Patch.

The middle-schooler was the national winner for grades 6-7 with her Doodle, titled “My Self Love.” She won among tens of thousands of works submitted by students from 54 states and U.S. territories.

This year’s competition prompt was “I care for myself by … ” According to Google, the goal was for students to “share how they nurture themselves in tough times.”

In addition to the Doodle, Ismaila also submitted a written response.

“I care for myself by making food!” she wrote. “I love to make delicious African dishes with my mom. That’s why my Doodle shows me smelling all of the delicious African dishes I LOVE!”

The winner of the competition will have his/her doodle featured on Google’s homepage for a day. He/she will also receive a $30,000 scholarship along with a $50,000 technology package for their school.

The finalists were assessed on artistic merit, creativity, and how well their artwork and written statements had addressed the prompt.
