Dialysis Center in Coatesville Closes, Leaving Patients Worried About Where They’ll Receive Life-Saving Care

By

Many kidney patients who have been receiving treatment at DaVita Dialysis Center in Coatesville are concerned over where they will continue their life-saving regimes after its closing on Friday, writes Shawnette Wilson for FOX 29.

Arvilla Hunt, whose husband Emmett, 71, has been going to the treatment center three times a week for close to four years, was told that some patients will go to a Thorndale office and others will be transferred to West Chester.

She added that they were not asked which location would be more convenient to them before being assigned to the Thorndale office.

While he used to get his dialysis in the morning, Hunt’s new schedule starts at 3:30 PM. As a 4.5-hour dialysis patient, this means that he will not be getting home before 9 PM, said his wife. The couple believes this new schedule will be hard on his body.

“I have to come home and eat something and then lay down,” he said. “I’m miserable, I’m really miserable.”

The Dialysis Center issued a statement, saying that “the health and safety of our patients is our top priority. We are temporarily closing our center to address staffing challenges – an issue affecting health care providers nationwide. We have arranged for all patients to treat at nearby centers during the transition to ensure uninterrupted access to care. We will continue to work with each patient to find the best option for their long-term care and be a resource as patients finalize transportation changes.”
