During National Water Safety Month, Co-Owners of Aqua-Tots of Horsham, Andrea and Brad Sahl, are sharing important facts and information about water safety. Believe it or not, the number one cause of accidental death of children five years of age and younger is drowning, a statistic that the couple is passionate about helping to combat. Their swim school focuses on making learning how to swim fun while at the same time sharing the importance of swim safety.

Learning how to swim can drastically reduce the risk of drowning by up to 88%. Aqua-Tots provides swimming lessons as early as four months old and offers an eight-level tiered program to meet each child’s needs in learning how to swim. Andrea and Brad have created an environment that ensures success when teaching children how to swim.

Below is a list of water safety tips from Aqua-Tots to consider:

  • Adult supervision is needed at all times when children are around water
  • Install safety barriers around the pool and areas within the home
  • Have children involved in swim lessons to learn safe boundaries and build confidence as a swimmer
  • Ensure caregivers are CPR certified and trained in first aid

When speaking with Andrea, you can undoubtedly hear the passion and drive in her voice to tackle such a large issue. “Our program is focused on water safety, drowning prevention, and progression of swim skills,” Andrea said. “Properly teaching children how to learn to swim is so important as humans because it’s not inherently easy.”

Andrea and Brad both strongly believe that no one should have to sacrifice learning how to swim. In the U.S. alone, over 10 fatal drownings occur each day, taking about 3,500 – 4,000 lives per year.

To guarantee all children have the opportunity to learn, the pair have implemented a scholarship program to help financially strapped families to take swimming lessons free of charge.

“With summer creeping around the corner, it is vital to establish proper swimming lessons for your children now. This is so important because the longer parents wait, the risk of an incident occurring increases,” said Brad.

Aqua-Tots is one of the top industry leaders in swimming instruction using a world-class curriculum with highly trained instructors. The state-of-the-art facility offers eight levels of classes, starting at four months old. The business has the mission to save lives by teaching children how to become confident swimmers in a safe environment.
