Exton native Wills Montgomery, a graduate student at Saint Joseph’s University, pursued baseball early in his athletic career until an injury forced him to switch gears and take up golf — with great success, writes Nicholas Klingman for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

A Downingtown East graduate, Montgomery played baseball through middle school. However, a serious foot injury leading into his freshman year of high school left him unable to run. While recovering, he started to play golf.

During his sophomore year, after finishing second at the Ches-Mont League Championship, he realized he might have a future in the sport. More accolades soon followed.

His success on the scholastic level continued collegiately. He’s now a graduate student in his fifth year of eligibility.

“I’m hoping to improve on my consistency moving forward,” he said. “I believe that my ‘good’ golf can compete with anybody in the country, but it just comes down to how often I can play my ‘good’ golf.”
