Cancer Survivor Bryanna Brown an Inspiration to Her Lincoln University Teammates
Cancer survivor Bryanna Brown has been an inspiration to her basketball teammates at Lincoln University and is now hoping to lead them to the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) tournament championship. Neil Geoghegan netted Brown’s inspiring story for the Daily Local News.
Brown discovered a mass in her breasts in 2018, a few months after transferring to Lincoln to play basketball. She faced a tough decision: remove the mass right away and sacrifice the season or delay treatment until season-end but risk the lump’s growth.
After playing four games, she decided to go through with the surgery. Her coaching staff and teammates provided her with plenty of love and support during the process.
Brown returned for the 2019–2020 season, when the team set numerous program records. The squad did not, however, make it past the first round of the CIAA conference tournament.
The New York City native is now on a mission to turn that around.
“I know its cliché to say, but we have unfinished business,” said Brown. “We have a lot to prove and winning a CIAA championship is our No. 1 goal.”
