Malvern Native — ‘Far and Away, the Best Offensive Line Coach in the Country’ — Returns to Notre Dame
Malvern native Harry Hiestand has returned to the Notre Dame football program and will coach its offensive line under first-year coach Marcus Freeman, writes Tom Noie for ND Insider.
Hiestand previously spent six seasons at Notre Dame (2012–2017), working with the offensive line under former Irish coach Brian Kelly.
He spent the next two seasons in a similar role with the Chicago Bears but was then fired.
Now, he is returning to a place he’s familiar with.
“I think he’s, far and away, the best offensive line coach in the country,” former Irish offensive lineman Mike Golic Jr. said in 2016. “I’ll put him up with anyone around the country. He’s so genuine.”
During his long and fruitful career, Hiestand tutored some of Notre Dame’s best offensive linemen. These included several first-round NFL draft picks:
- Zack Martin (Dallas Cowboys)
- Mike McGlinchey (San Francisco 49ers)
- Quenton Nelson (Indianapolis Colts)
- Ronnie Stanley (Baltimore Ravens)
