Paycheck friendliness is an evaluation of factors such as frequency of compensation and local purchasing power.

Chester County ranks as the most paycheck friendly place in Pennsylvania, according to a recently released report by SmartAsset.

The paycheck friendliness of each county was determined using four main metrics:

  • Semi-monthly paychecks
  • Purchasing power
  • Unemployment rate
  • Income growth

Chester County placed first, with an overall paycheck friendliness index of 63.59.

Its average semi-monthly paycheck is $1,602 (compared with the $1,589 state average,) which puts it in fifth place statewide.

The county had a purchasing power of 2.44, significantly higher than the state’s 1.53 and the highest of all the counties.

Chester County also ranked in first place based on the unemployment rate, which stands at only 4.3 percent. The state unemployment rate is currently 6.3 percent.

The only category in which the county failed to rank among the Top 10 is income growth; however, its 3.1 percent growth is still above the state’s 2.7 percent.
